Default A couple of good things . .

Just figured I'd drop in and add a couple of my favorite things that differ between GW and WoW.

WoW has scheduled downtime every Tuesday where they either do server maintenance or patching.

I can only remember 1 or 2 instance of downtime in GW's history, and it was an issue with their network provider I believe. GW patches require ZERO downtime. In fact, if you're in the middle of something, you can keep playing with the old version and restart your client at your convenience. It's totally unintrusive. No one groans at the thought of a GW patch like they do about WoW patch day.

and of course.

WoW has a monthly fee.

GW has none ;-)

Elix, they do kick you out of the version after a couple of hours though.

1. No lag for me.( besides FPS, but that's my vid card and cpu overheating )

2. Similar to WoW. You will face kids ==> IGNORE

3. If you make a hot elementalist or ritualist, and go afk dancing naked, expect to attract alot of W/Mo's around you. ( Those are the kids )

4. Controls are really good and well-balanced, easy to learn.

5. You can always whisper 1 person at the time ( friends list etc. ) , your entire guild, your team you're fighting with right now, and your entire alliance, ( wich is multiple guilds usually )

6. 9/10, because there is no perfect score.

I see no problem in letting little kids play, the game itself is rated Teen, for bad word usage, there's a pretty good chat filter, and you can always ignore people. ( I don't know how old you are. )

Since everyone else answered your other questions, I'll answer the parent one since I am a parent.

As long as you don't give anyone your personal information, it is perfectly safe for you to play GW. I'm a mom and I let my 14 year old daughter play. She knows the rules and she's in our guild.....well, she really had no choice on that since she's playing on my 2nd account, but she would be anyway.

There are people of all ages playing. In our guild we have had kids from around the age of 12 to adults as old 51. We are respectful of the kids in our guild and we don't swear in guild chat. Usually the only ones who do are the kids, but it is not allowed by anyone.

So, if your mom has any other concerns, she can pm me here and I will try and answer any questions she may have.

Lag is a subjective thing, I never get lag in WoW and I never get lag in GW

Teens mostly, PvE players tend to be younger and more immature than PvP players which is interesting considering my experiences on PvP servers in WoW

8/10 for Chapter 1
5/10 for Chapter 2

The age question is really a wide arch.

You can generally find a guild with a specific age range. My guild/alliance is full of 18+ people and pretty mature. But you will find those that are not. Really kinda depends on who you hang out with in game.

The only thing I do dislike is when I'm in a Pvp Arena with 7-9 winning streaks. Then a update pops up and it doesn't take me to a new battle. I missed around 2 gladiator points because of that

Hi there,

If you're contemplating about moving from WoW to GW, I think it's imperative that you understand the difference between the 2 games. Some of the questions you've asked exists in almost any multiplayer games:

- Lag is subjective, since your ISP plays a part in this too. I haven't experienced much that was a result of GW but I do get disconnections sometimes (rarely though).
- Age group is wide and the players I've spoken to are usually around 15~18 (much younger than I am)
- As for perverts, it's really beyond your control. There are always such folks around and I can imagine possibly more of them in GW since the game has much better looking female chars. :P

The following are some points you may wish to consider before taking up GW. My friend had sent me a trial for WoW and after playing the game for awhile I had decided to check out GW instead.

- GW isn't an MMO, but focused as a Competitive Online RPG offering better gameplay in PvP as compared to WoW. It is 'dungeon-style' much like Diablo II to a certain extent, comprising of different zones that form up the entire map area.
- PvE in GW is quite different from WoW, however, it is likely that most people will prefer WoW for its content and environment. WoW is more interactive than GW and you can take up professions (WoW term) which you can't in GW (classes in WoW are analogous to professions in GW). PvE in GW is mainly focused on killing mobs or doing quests/missions. Missions are scenarios as a part of GW storyline, something that I don't see in WoW.
- GW presents quite a few inconveniences when it comes to certain functions such as trading, messenging, etc. These are just inconveniences though, they don't really affect gameplay.
- Control keys are very similar to WoW. As for character control, you can only equip max 8 skills at any time. This is actually an interesting concept to me, as it makes you plan abit before you start off killing mobs. You can't jump nor swim in GW which is a shame but not an important 1.
- Max level in GW is 20 but you do get to level up after that to gain skill points (20 is just the cap). The interesting part of GW were made for the level 20s and the mobs are usually higher level too.
- You can almost never make a wrong character and have to start all over in GW. The only things you can't change is the look of your char (once you have decided) and the selected primary profession. Every other aspect of your character can be changed as you see fit (when you are in a town/outpost), even your secondary profession can be changed (at a later time in the game).
- The way things like crafting, etc work in GW is very different from WoW. With the absence of job professions in GW, crafting is something dependent on NPCs. Armors can never be dropped as a loot and must always be crafted by an NPC by providing the neccessary materials and some gold, they are also 'soulbound' on purchase. An interesting type of NPC in GW is the Collector. These NPCs offer items in exchange for certain other collectable items.

Personally, I think both WoW and GW are 9/10 for me. I chose GW since WoW is too slow-paced for me and the fights are usually not as intensed as the former. The fights in GW somehow yield more satisfaction for me and the game system allows for more 'safe-tweaking' of characters. I also prefer the way GW characters look over WoW's.

1. How's the lag? ------ There is lag sometimes but not as much (or at least for me)

2.What's the general age group that plays; teens, 20-30yrs,30-40yrs, etc.----- the age ranges from 0-60 from what i have seen
3.Are there lots of perverts? --- yes there are like in every MMO
4. Controls: Are they anything like WoW controls --- not sure i can't remeber the WoW controls lol. But i guess so
5.I read that anywhere that isn't a town is like an instance and your alone unless you're in a group, can you still talk to people if you don't have a group like through whispers/tells or guild chat or anything like that? - YES
6. Over all what would you rate the game and if you wouldn't mind, please give something you like and don't like about it. - i'd give oit a 7 same for WoW but maybe a decimal off or something :P Things i like would be game play in general. Things i dont like : spammers (in both games)

the physco thing you dont have to worry about as long as you dont give any personal info out.

To OP Ryfenn, Ive been playing GW since it came out, and I now started playing WoW too, and so far WoW hasnt impressed me much considering I have to pay as well.

Lag: its hard to determine lag really, BUT oon just a general comparison, I hardly ever get lag in GW except during a "special event" type thing. In WoW its just all the time.

You can get around fine in any huge town, there no lag there either like Ironforge.

Going outside everywhere like an instance is mostly better to me as you can still talk to people, and you dont have to worry about some lvl60 killing everything your going for, or a bunch of people just grinding while your on a quest. I'm sure you know what I mean there.

The general controlling is way better then WoW, cause the buttons actually make sense, and you can still have customization for even more simplicity.

The graphics are better too imo, with scenery, weapons, etc.

Since your going from WoW to GW, probably the biggest downside to yoou will be "content" or "explorability". I know WoW is huge I havent uncovered much, but GW is big as well as long as you play moderately.

**Definitely get GW...my only advice is dont rush the game and EXPLORE**

p.s the only reason im playing a lil more WoW atm is because im waiting on Nightfall, cause i'm just collecting stuff. :P

Hmm, I don't see anything wrong with it so far, of course I'm looking at the positive stuff :P, but there really aren't that many negatives (the lag also got me in trouble because I would get mad at the computer and kinda raise my voice at it...hehe, but if there isn't much that issue should be good ^-^). Once again, thank you sooo much for all the help!

yeah honestly the most immature players ive encountered are the ones who are older, like today in the Fissure of Woe- had this ranger attacking multiple groups, saying he was after chests... told him to quit acting like a 10 year old, and he says "screw you im 37" at which point he goes afk, gets killed, and ten minutes later is like "guys can you rez me im over my tantrum, i can help you"

we all replied by saying "we dont need you at all" and finished out Forgemaster quests with a party of 6 (another got an err 7, validated by his guildmate who was still with us)

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN MY OPINION-

In wow, you get to max level- then what? Nothing. Game loses meaning.

In GW, you get to max level- and the real game begins.

MY SUGGESTION

Create an account next weekend (if you can wait) and play the free preview of nightfall. If that doesnt do it for you, then the game isnt for you.

Ditch wow, join us.

(edit- despite ppls opinions on factions-> I really enjoy the added minigames it adds)

gw:chp1 9/10
gw:chp2 9/10
gw:chp3 Im crapping myself just thinking about it.

if you do get the game, start with chp:1 or Chp3. Chp 2 is geared towards ppl who have experience in the game already, but the ritualist alone is reason enough to get the game IMO.

i would only like to add that common players in WoW are more helpful than in GW because most of the helpful nice ppl are grinding or playing with their own guildies. oh ya get into good guild like the one Commander Ryker is in. That makes a whole lot of difference. Scamming is quite rampant so don't be too innocent. get Chap 1. skip chap 2. get chap 3.

lag is not an issue most of the time, and throughout the time that i've played the game, i've never expierienced any perverts or anything like that. U can whisper and chat with ur guild and friends anytime u want. The chat is very comfortable for newcomers, and the pvp in the game, i think personally, has a lot more quality than wow

I played both a lot... A LOT and quit WoW permenantly once I realized Guild Wars was the better of the 2. WoW had it's moments, but IMO it's a game without a future.

Comparing the communities of the 2 games I'd say that GW's is better just because you can play with anyone in the world. You're not limited to a 2,000 person server which might be mostly a nice bunch of people or mostly a bunch of jerks. If you keep your chat filter on and use your ignore list when needed I don't think you'll have any problems with the GW community.

Comparing the ignore features of WoW and GW I think neither is perfect. In WoW you could only block a character not an account from messaging you so stalkers were a frequent problem. In GW you can block a whole account from messaging you, but your ignore list can only hold 10 names whereas WoW could hold 25.

There's no contest when you compare lag in the 2 games. GW's wins hands down. Occasionally GW's servers will act funny, but they're solid most of the time. One drawback to GW though is the lack of reconnecting to your party if you do get disconnected, which is something that WoW could do. That's something Anet the makers of GW say they are working on though.

Guild Wars is a beautiful game especially when you start exploring past the starter areas, much nicer than WoW, but it might take some getting used to the different controls of GW if you've been playing WoW for a long time. The camera movement doesn't flow as nice in GW as it does in WoW, but once you get past the little quarks, GW truly is an immersive game you can play for years.

Major difference - you won't find any fourty-man endgame raids here.

The Deep and Urgoz' Warren are the highest end-game PvE aspects, and they are hardly 20 or 40man content.

Get used to PvPing - it's where the fun is and is like a very technical strategy game.

1. Server side, it is absolutely lag free.
2. Youngest player in my Guild is 15, the oldest in my Alliance is 39.
3. Perverts? Don't know much about that, but my sexy female mesmer haven't got any harassment yet. (Considering I never took her cloth off)
4. Never played WoW, so don't know. But from what I read from other people that played both. The biggest challenge is try not to press space bar. WoW players seem aways have that urge to jump... (>.>)
5. What you said is true. And it is one of the reason why I choose GW over WoW.
6. The best of all MMOGs. It has better graphics than DDO and WoW. It have lower requirement than DDO and WoW. It have an innovative skill system that no other game have. It have no monthly fee. It is off time free. And many other reasons why it is the currently best online game.

90% of those girl chars you see running around are guys at the controls chief.

I'm a guy and 5 of my 6 characters are guys and there are times when I'm tempted to remake my tank as a female. I have to agree though, the models, armour, what-have-you all just seem to be better on the females then the males...although I will admit that the tank /guitar and /drums is much better than the female.

As a friend of mine that occasionally plays GW says "The female character models aren't for you, they're for me. If I'm going to be staring at a model for god only knows how many hours, I want it to be something that's nice to look at." Also from the same source comes the true definition of MMORPG: "Many Men Online Really Pretending to be Girls"

I knew a few people in my guild who made girls so they didn't have to stare at a guy butt all day, so I don't mind that and the whole buncha guys making girls is a good thing; no one knows who's a girl or not, unless they're gay 0.o (not that I have a problem with that plz don't hurt me!). I'm just saying that the not knowing if the girl is really a girl is a plus for a paranoid parent...I think...well it sounded good in my head. :P

Thanks again for all the information, ya'll have helped me so much ^.^ and hopefully with all the information I can provide a good enough case for my parents and get the game .
